Travel Diary: My Fall Break

Hello guys! Long time, no write. School has completely taken over my life, so blogging had to take the backseat for a few weeks. But, I’m back with a new post! Last week I was on fall break, and I had such an amazing time that I wanted to share my travels with you!

Thursday morning my boyfriend, Mitchell, and I woke up and got ready for hour 3.5-hour drive! We made a quick pit stop for breakfast and to Target for road trip snacks (because you just cannot drive without road trip snacks!) and then hit the road. The drive wasn’t the best, as Tropical Storm Michael was covering almost the entire state of North Carolina and we drove through it for almost the entire time. There were a few car accidents and fallen tree limbs on the road, so parts of the drive were a little slow.

Eventually, we made it to our Airbnb and we unpacked the car and settled in for a bit. For dinner, we went to a restaurant called Rocky’s Hot Chicken Shack which was very good! After dinner, we drove through downtown and headed back. We were staying in a cute neighborhood, so we decided to go for a walk. The neighborhood was so quaint!

We planned to spend Friday downtown, so we woke up around 8, got ready, and grabbed some breakfast at a nearby Bruegger’s Bagels. After eating, we drove back to the house and walked about a mile to the downtown area. Our first pitstop downtown was Double D’s Coffee and Desserts, which is the cutest coffee shop ever! It’s an old double-decker bus! I got a Peppermint Mocha, which was SO GOOD. Mitchell got a Lavender Honey latte, which he really enjoyed. They also had decorated for Halloween, which was so fun!

We spent most of the day walking around and going into different shops. We found a really big general store which was very fun. For lunch, we headed to Wicked Weed Brewing, which was very good. Mitchell tried some of their beers, and we got some seasoned popcorn. For my meal, I got a salad which was delicious. I tried to keep it light because of our dinner plans!

Following lunch, we paid a visit to the Asheville Pinball Museum! Admission is $15 and you get unlimited play with a bunch of pinball machines from throughout history! We ended up staying there for 2 hours because we were having so much fun.

When we finally decided to leave, we started heading back to our house. We stopped at a few more shops, and also found a cute mural!

We had dinner at Vinny’s Neighborhood Italian Restaurant, which was really good! I got the Carbonara and Mitchell got Scallops. We treated ourselves to this one special dinner, and it was a great night!

Saturday was a great day. We woke up at 7 in the morning and drove to Tennessee to go to none other than DOLLYWOOD. I had never been to Tennessee before, so I was very excited! The drive was a little under 2 hours, and it wasn’t bad at all. When we got there, an extremely nice man had extra tickets from work and gave them to us so we got in for free! That was such a special thing to have happened, and it made my day so much better.

I love amusement parks, so I had so much fun. We had planned to go for a few hours and then leave to check out Gatlinburg, TN, but we were enjoying it so much we ended up staying until the park closed at 10!

I even got Mitchell to ride his first 2 rollercoasters which were definitely an interesting experience. Mitchell’s biggest fear with rollercoasters was the part where you go up. I didn’t see any drops on one rollercoaster so I chose that one to ride. Little did I know, part of it was inside and there were not only 2 parts going up, but they went straight up at a 90-degree angle. Oops. He actually ended up liking that coaster more than me, so I guess I succeeded?

Saturday was a really fun day, and I enjoyed being able to cross another state off my list! We even got to take a train ride at Dollywood where I was able to see the sun setting behind the Smoky Mountains, which was beautiful! Overall it was a really great day.

Sunday was a sad day because break was over. Check-out was at 10, so we woke up around 8 and packed our bags and loaded the car. We made some stops along the drive home to break it up a bit and to try and make our vacation last just a little longer. Eventually, we made it home, and we had to face the reality of going back to classes. Sad.

This was the best fall break I’ve had to date! It was such a fun trip and I got to go to places I had never been before, which made it even better. I can’t wait for my next trip, wherever it may take me!

What are your future travel plans?
