Valentine’s Day Self-Care

Hi! Welcome back to my blog!

Valentine’s Day is almost here! Personally, I’ve never been the biggest fan of Valentine’s Day. I’ve found it to be extremely overhyped and have always thought of it as just a commercialized holiday. The one thing I do love about Valentine’s Day? The chocolate! Especially when it’s discounted the following day haha!

Since Mitchell and I go to schools about an hour apart, we are waiting until the weekend to do anything. So, I’ll be spending Valentine’s Day at school most likely by myself! I wanted to write a post about some self-care tips that are perfect for Valentine’s Day that I will most likely be doing! Whether your single, in a long distance relationship or schedules just don’t line up on a Thursday night, these self-care tips are perfect for your Valentines Day! Besides, the one person in your life that probably doesn’t get a lot of love from you is yourself!

1. DO SOME YOGA

Yoga is such a great way to help your mind body and soul. It can help you get rid of any stress you may have (like if you’re single and despise Valentine’s Day because of it – I’ve been there) and enjoy a blocked out time of peace. Yoga With Adriene on YouTube has some great videos that you can follow along with!

2. JOURNAL

I’ve been seeing so many bloggers and just lots of people talking about journaling and spending time reflecting on things they are grateful for. Sit down with yourself and write out all the things you are grateful for in your life or all the things you love about yourself. You could even just write about all the good things that happened to you that day. Whatever it is, sitting down and writing out positive thoughts you have about yourself and life can be a really great thing.

3. WATCH YOUR FAVORITE MOVIE

Who says you can’t watch an action movie on Valentine’s Day? Not me! No matter what genre your favorite movie it, pull it up on Netflix (or pop in the DVD – does anyone use DVDs anymore??) and sit down with a yummy snack and enjoy. Watching movies I love and can quote always brings me joy! It’s a great way to spend 1.5 to 2 hours doing something you’ll for sure enjoy.

4. SPA NIGHT

Face masks are my favorite! I know it won’t solve any problems but it always makes me feel super relaxed and makes my skin happy too! Take a nice hot shower or bubble bath, throw on a face mask, paint your nails, pamper yourself to your heart’s desire!

5. SPEND SOME TIME OFF SOCIAL MEDIA

Ah, social media. Something I love (and even study in school for my major) and also hate at the same time. It’s no lie that social media can definitely have some toxic qualities to it. Doing this on Valentine’s Day is especially helpful if you don’t want to see endless photos of happy couples and be reminded of the fact that you’re single or that your significant other is far away. Even if you are cool with seeing that, taking time off social media no matter what can be beneficial. Try to stay off your phone while doing the aforementioned tips to fully enjoy your night of self-care!

Wishing you all a great Valentine’s Day no matter what you may be doing! Let me know in a comment if you have any plans for it and what you’re doing! As always, if you liked this post, be sure to head to my homepage and subscribe to emails and follow me on Instagram @mainly.mackenzie!
