Recently I started really focusing more on my blog and Instagram and making better content for both. One thing I started to do was plan out my content for the month, which has been so helpful. Today I wanted to share with you how I plan out my blog content each month and even give you some free downloads to help you start planning your content too!
WHEN DO I PLAN MY CONTENT?
Usually, the last week of the month is when I start planning content out for the month ahead. I don’t plan things out for the year because I change my mind so often so I like to do it month by month.
PLANNING BLOG POSTS
The first things I plan out are my blog posts. I tend to change my posting schedule based on what’s going on in my life so I’ll first reassess my schedule and see if I want to change it up. Now that it’s summer I’m trying to post twice a week, while in December and May when I have finals I aim toward once a week instead.
Once I figure out what dates I want to publish, I start brainstorming post topics. I’ll scroll through other bloggers to see what topics are being covered around that time, scroll through Pinterest for ideas, etc. I like to keep a notes file on my phone and write ideas whenever I think of them so I’ll check that to see if any of those ideas still speak to me while planning.
Then I take my brainstorm and pick the best post ideas and add them to my calendar on the dates that I chose to publish!
PLANNING INSTAGRAM POSTS
The first Instagram posts I plan are the ones to accompany my blog posts. I use the same picture for my blog post graphic and promotional Instagram picture so I plan out what picture I want to take. I then think of some Instagram photo ideas to post in between blog posts and make note of those too.
Once I have my photo ideas I write them in on my calendar as well so I have everything I plan on posting written in the same calendar. I also then make a little checklist of photos I need to take in my notes app on my phone so I have that.
For blog posts, I typically don’t write the posts until the week I plan on posting them. They usually take a while to write so I don’t have the time to work on all of them at the beginning of the month.
As for Instagram posts, I take my checklist in my phone and take all of my pictures within the same couple of days. It makes it much easier to have all of them taken so all I have to do is post them when the planned date comes! I put all of my edited photos in the app called UNUM which is an Instagram planning app. It’s super easy to use and super helpful!
