How to Balance Life in College

Hi! Welcome back to my blog!

College can be a really busy time of your life, and balancing schoolwork, extracurriculars, social life, fitness, etc. can be a challenge. That’s why today I’m sharing my tips for balancing life in college!

Before I start, let me just say that I am not perfect and I definitely don’t have it all figured out. However, since I’m a senior in college I’ve definitely learned a lot about balancing everything and can share what works best for me.

1. SCHEDULE YOUR HOMEWORK TIME

If you feel like you are so busy and never have time to get homework done, schedule it out. You schedule meetings and classes, so why not do the same for homework? In your planner or calendar or wherever you keep track of everything, block out a chunk of time where you will dedicate getting work done. If you’re someone who easily gets distracted, head to the library or another study spot to really knock it out.

2. DON’T TAKE ON TOO MUCH

If you have a full class load and lots of social engagements planned for the semester, it might not be a good idea to take on a job or join a ton of clubs on the side. Learn what your limit is and don’t spread yourself too thin because you will end up becoming burnt out.

3. MAKE FRIENDS THAT SUPPORT YOUR GOALS

Of course, a large aspect of college is social. Meeting new people, grabbing meals with your besties, working on assignments together is an essential part of your college experience. Make friends with people that support you and your aspirations. They will be understanding if you have to cancel plans to finish a paper and will help you study for your upcoming exams. Friends like these are so important because they can help you be the best you.

4. FIND A GYM BUDDY

Making time for fitness can be difficult. When you have a lot of work you can become stressed and not want to go to the gym. If you have a gym buddy, they can motivate you to get a workout in when you might not be feeling it. Exercise helps with stress and is good for you, so head to the gym with a friend and get it done!

5. GIVE YOURSELF DOWNTIME BEFORE BED

Doing homework up until the second you close your eyes to sleep is not a good idea. I used to do this all the time and I would always have such a hard time falling asleep because my mind was racing 100 miles a minute. Stopping your homework a bit before bed so you can unwind and relax before going to sleep will help you so much. It will help get rid of stress and will help you fall asleep faster which is always a great thing.
