How to Create the Perfect To-Do List

One of my favorite things to do when I have work to get done is to create a to-do list. I find to-do lists to be the best way to keep track of everything you need to get done, and I honestly like them more than using a planner. I love the feeling of checking things off of my to-do list and knowing that I got everything done that I needed to.

To help you improve your to-do lists I’m going to share with you my three steps for creating a killer to-do list that will boost your productivity and help you tackle everything you need to.


Start your list by writing 1-3 things you absolutely need to get done that day. This will be your main to-do list. You can focus on these tasks first since they are your priorities. If you get your top tasks done for the day, you should definitely feel a sense of accomplishment. Having a smaller to-do list also helps to keep up motivation so you don’t feel overwhelmed by everything.


Underneath your top tasks, make a list of things you’d like to get done that day, but if you don’t get to them it’s not an issue. Having a “wishlist” of tasks is great because if you finish your top tasks and still have time, you already know what tasks you can do. It also gives you the freedom to pick and choose which tasks you feel like doing which can help to motivate you to be more productive.


If you have an assignment due at 12:00 or a meeting at 3:00, make sure to highlight these on your list do they stand out. This will help you from forgetting to do them at that certain time.

Use these three steps when making your next to-do list and I promise you’ll feel a much bigger sense of accomplishment and get more tasks done. It’ll make keeping track of what you need to get done and what you already have done much easier, making you more productive and efficient.
