Time management is an important skill to have. Sometimes we can struggle with improving time management and get overwhelmed when we have a lot to do but not a lot of time to complete everything. Today I’m sharing my top 3 tips for improving your time management skills.
1. SET SPECIFIC “NO PHONE” TIMES
If you struggle with getting distracted, try setting specific times where you do not go on your phone. Put it on airplane mode, leave your phone in the other room, or set up Downtime in the iPhone settings app during this time so you can focus all of your attention on the task at hand.
2. PRIORITIZE YOUR IMPORTANT TASKS
If you have something you need to get done by the end of the week, make sure that’s what is at the top of your to-do list. When making my to-do lists, I like to have a list of my 3 priorities first, then followed by smaller tasks that are less important. This helps you visualize what absolutely needs to get done before moving onto something smaller.
3. TIME BATCH YOUR BIG PROJECTS
When you have a big project you know will take a lot of time to complete, try time batching and creating a roadmap to completion. Instead of starting the project and working on it for however many hours, strategically plan your process. Schedule out a few hours each day to focus on each step the project, and stop when that time is up. This will help you complete the project on time without burning out.
4. SET DEADLINES
If you’re a procastinator, don’t just start working on something and plan to finish it when you finish it. Set specific deadlines for yourself! This will help to motivate you to get projects done in an efficient and timely manner.
5. FIND WHAT ENVIRONMENT WORKS BEST FOR YOU
Do you prefer a silent room with no noise? Do you like to get work done with music playing in the background? Do you prefer a coffee shop with a friend? Find what working environment you’re most productive in and stick to that. If you prefer silence but keep going to a busy coffee shop to work, you won’t be as productive and will most likely end up procrastinating and wasting time.
